This week we are working really well as a team to build a hideout for the Gruffalo.

Our Take One Picture week was fantastic! We used the Robin Hood painting as inspiration. We used our sewing skills to decorated oak leaves and we produced our own version of the Major Oak. It was fantastic to welcome parents to view our gallery in the hall.

Hands on Hollingwood was a great success. We loved having our lovely families in school.

Our teddy bears picnic was such fun, we had lots of yummy treats. The children recreated the picnic in the home corner. They wrote shopping lists for food and sang songs with the bears.

Lily was really interested in finding out more about healthy eating. She used a computer to search the internet.

Art club took part in a workshop with wire sculptor Hannah Larkham. They worked as a team to create a beautiful tree for our school grounds.

We have an amazing new construction area.

We loved learning about Vincent Van Gogh and painted our own version of a Starry Night. All the paintings were amazing, the children used their brushes to create swirls.

We have had so much fun in the fruit and veg market stall.

Welcome back! This term we are learning about farms and we will be growing vegetables and flowers in our planting beds. These are in the playground outside Chesterfield and London class. This week we have planted carrot seeds and French marigolds. It was really hard work to prepare the planting beds but we worked as a team and created a perfect environment for our veg and flowers to grow in.

Toby and Bobby were very enthusiastic gardeners.

The water area is very popular this week. The children have used citrus fruit, measuring equipment, sieves and ladels to create the perfect drink. The classroom smells amazing!

We had a wonderful time when Pets at Home visited us with rabbits and guinea pigs.

Lily and Rose were so soft and fluffy.

Toby had a real guinea pig in the hutch he made in the workshop area. Mr Herbert thought the hutch was fantastic.

What a fun packed week we are having! We have made beautiful Mother's day cards and in circle time we thought about all the lovely things our parents and carers do for us. Today is world book day and we are having a brilliant time dressed as our favourite book characters. We were inspired to write about our costumes and our favourite books. Please feel free to come and look in your child's yellow book to see their fantastic writing. Tomorrow we are looking forward to Mothers day lunch and next week we are delighted to welcome Pets at home into our school. They will be showing us how to be kind to animals and teaching us how to handle them carefully.

We thought about the wildlife that lives in our gardens. We have thought about ways we can be kind to birds during the winter and we made some bird cakes using digestive biscuits, lard and seeds.

We used our imaginations in the tuff spot and pretended dinosuars were hatching out of the eggs in the swamp.

We have had a super week. We used our dinosaur eggs to inspire us to write amazing stories.

We have made brilliant dinosaur eggs. Next week we will use our imaginations to make up a fantastic dinosaur story.

This week we have found out why fruit and veg is good for us. We wrote super sentences about our favourite fruit or veg.

Your children will be able to talk to you about old toys. They might ask you about toys you used to enjoy playing with!

This week we are learning about toys from the past.

Happy New Year, we hope you all had a lovely Christmas. We are really looking forward to this spring term.

This term we will have a focus on music with a new music area in London class and during topic work your child will be playing a range of musical instruments including multi-cultural instruments. We are really lucky to be working with Bridged Fraser from the Derby and Derbyshire Music Education Partnership. She will visit our school to deliver the Musical Gems workshops where your children will improve their sense of the music around them. Children will be introduced to key musical concepts including:

Pulse - keeping a steady beat

Rhythm - patterns of sound a silence

Tempo - awareness of musical speed

Pitch - distinction of high and low notes

Dynamics - distinction of loud and quiet

Silence - awareness of no sound at all.

The children are very excited about our new junk modelling area and have already created some amazing space rockets and bridges.

This week ...

We are looking forward to our church visit on Wednesday afternoon.

We are really excited about performing our Christmas concert to you all this Friday.

Our calendars are looking super, we are using 4 different art techniques to make them.

Children in FS2 have had lots of fun this week reading Aliens Love Underpants. We have looked at the rhyming words in the story and thought of our own rhyming words. We are going to be using our imaginations to act out parts of the story at the end of the week.

Looking forward to next week

Next week are looking forward to making Rudolph out of play dough, playing with figures in a snow scene, decorating a tree branch to look snowy and icy, sorting 2D shapes and lots more..

We will be learning about winter festivals and focusing on the Jewish Festival of light Hanukka. You could use books and the internet to find out how Hanukka is celebrated and about the menorah which is a special type of candle holder.
