'Brown bear, Brown Bear What do you see?'

In nursery we are looking at the book 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?.' We have read the story together and looked at all the different animals that the Brown Bear saw. The children have been working on their colour mixing skills and have created some beautiful paintings of the animals. The children have been reading the story to each other and writing some of the animals names independently using their phonic knowledge! Next week we are creating animals using different textures! Well done Nursery!

Each week we have a number and shape of the week. The children have to find different items around the room that are the same shape. The children also hunt for the different numbers or number of objects. Have a go with your child at home! This week we are looking at number 3 and a triangle. Add what you find in your home school diary!

The phonemes the children are learning in phonics are:

When we write done the phoneme we call it a grapheme. The children have been learning to blend and segment words such as dog, cat and peg. We have also been hearing the initial sounds of words, have a go while you are out and about.

This week the children have been look at the nursery rhyme '2 little dickie birds.' We went on a bird watching walk where are saw robins, blackbirds and magpies. The children attempted to write the initial sounds they could hear.  In the classroom we then made our own bird feeders for the birds. We used our fine motor skills to thread grapes, cheerios, popcorn and raisins onto wire.

In Phase 2 phonics we are learning the phonemes s a t p. Below are some examples of how to say the phonemes to help your child. We are also learning the high frequency words :

In phonics we explored the sounds of instruments. We had to guess what instruments were hiding in the box when Mrs Glossop played them. Ask us what we played!

In our phonics were are using our listening skills to see what we can hear! We heard cars, dogs barking, a car horn, birds, talking and foot steps! We are also practising our sitting skills!
