We have been learning all about why we commemorate Remembrance Day, we have learned about the sacrifices made by brave young people, who risked and sometimes gave their lives in war, so that we may live in peace.
As part of our commemorations, we have completed lots of work that remembers those who fought for us.
We have written thank you poems in English that we have presented on Wreaths.
We have painted a poppy field picture and learned about the symbolism of the poppy.
We have created a poppy sculpture that is joined with those of our schoolmates to create a truly fantastic commemorative display.
Many children returned to school for the special commemorative service, in which decorated veterans and the Mayor and Mayoress of Chesterfield visited school.
Our class representatives on the school council (Lucy and Harry T) laid our wreath at the foot of the schools beautiful poppy artwork.
It was a very moving service.
These special guests expressed how impressed they were with our children and the hard work they put into creating such beautiful and considered pieces of work.
I and all staff were very proud of their hard work and the respect they gave our visitors.
