Kung Hei Fat Choy!
This week in reception we have learned all about Chinese New Year. We read a story about a British family celebrating Chinese New Year and learned about their culture.
This year will be the Year of the Dog, so we have enjoyed reading Hairy Maclary stories and looking after dogs in the classroom.
We were very excited to do some Chinese cooking and made vegetable spring rolls.
We chopped peppers, spring onions and beansprouts and, once they had been stir fried, we rolled them in filo pastry and baked them. They were delicious!
We loved reading 'Aliens Love Underpants'
We made our own monster sandwiches, thinking about how we could use different sandwich fillings to make a face. Lots of us tried foods we weren't sure if we liked and some of us found new favourites!
We know how important it is to wash our hands before preparing and eating food. We really enjoying making our sandwiches and especially eating them!
Our space topic was out of this world!
We have been so busy, learning lots about the solar system, planets, stars and moons.
We listened to music by a composer called Holst and talked about the sound of each planet's piece. Some of the planets had very loud music but others were calm and we thought it sounded "like floating through space"
Happy new year! We are so excited to be back!
We have read 'You Choose' by Pippa Goodhart and imagined where we would live, who we'd spend time with, what we'd like to eat and which jobs we might choose.
We had lots of fun role playing and learning about different jobs. We have enjoyed looking after the poorly animals in the vets and helping others dressed as police officers!
This week, we wrote diaries for the first time. We showed how much our writing and phonics are developing by writing brilliant sentences about our Christmas holidays.
